ePerfect, a Texas-based provider of high-quality, affordable web hosting services, has added server-based virus scanning for all incoming and outgoing e-mails.

"New and more insidious e-mail viruses have been appearing at an alarming rate in recent months," reports Pete Cassetta, system administrator at ePerfect. "Virus-carrying messages place a burden on our e-mail servers, clog customer mailboxes, and can cause harm for customer PC's, so this has become a serious situation."

To protect our clients and maintain the responsiveness of our servers, we have implemented automated virus scanning for all incoming and outgoing e-mails. Virus definitions are updated daily, and the system appears to be 100% effective so far. One customer, who was receiving over 100 virus-carrying messages per day, has not received a single such message since our virus-protection was installed on his server.
